Celebrate Norfolk gains its charitable status

ForumJohnBetts2011: Celebrate Norwich & Norfolk, the Christian organisation committed to celebrating and communicating the work of the local Christian community, has successfully registered as a charity, just two months before it takes over the Forum and Millennium Plain in Norwich for its annual event.

The newly-established charity has appointed three foundational trustees who are: Network Norfolk publisher Keith Morris, Rev Janet Wyer, associate priest at St Peter Mancroft and Aliona Laker, Norwich-based manager and fundraiser.

Project director, John Betts (pictured above), said: “We are delighted to be registered as a charity and are greatly encouraged by the way the programme for this year is gaining momentum. The Atrium is fully booked with exhibitors. The programme for Millennium Plain is coming together and we have a good number of Partner events taking shape.

“Becoming a charity is another milestone in our progress. I want to personally thank our three trustees for joining us. They are already making a difference to the work of Celebrate. John Payne is our treasurer, also a great addition to the team.”

John said: "I am delighted with the way Celebrate has developed in such a short time. The prospects of being a major influence for Christian unity in Norfolk, and of helping to raise the public awareness of the work of the churches in the city and county, is a great privilege."

There is still time for churches and other Christian groups who want to organise Partner events alongside the main Celebrate weekend from June 10-12. Norwich churches who can display A1 posters on external church noticeboards are also required.

Celebrate is also looking for volunteers who are prepared to lend a helping hand by giving an hour or two during the event to distribute promotional leaflets and newspapers in and around the city centre during the three-day event in June.

Celebrate’s main sponsors are the Belsey Bridge Conference Centre, YMCA Norfolk and Transforming Norwich and its new charitable number is 1141245, for anyone who wishes to support the organisation.

If you would like to offer a partnership event, church noticeboard or an hour or two as a volunteer, please e-mail event administrator Jenny Drake at jenny.nhcc@virgin.net or ring her on 07415 692758.
