Gorleston Xmas on Mag 750CF

Gorleston church's community Christmas celebration

2018: A church in Gorleston is heading onto the square outside its church building to celebrate Christmas this year.

St Mary Magdalene Church in Gorleston is hosting “Christmas on the Mag” on Magdalen Square on December 22 from 3pm to 5pm and is inviting the whole community to join in with the fun.

The minister of the church, Revd Matthew Price explains, “Christmas is a time when communities should come together, and we want the afternoon to be a real community celebration of Christmas.  We hope all ages and stages will join in with the fun.  There will be activities for all to get involved with: Christmas crafts to have a go at, a floodlit football cage, a giant inflatable snow globe and Santa in his grotto too!”  The organisers will also be providing free warming refreshments.

At the heart of the afternoon will be the Big Christmas Sing when, led by an ensemble from Great Yarmouth Brass, the community will be encouraged to sing some their favourite carols together.  Alongside this there will also be performances from the choirs of Peterhouse Church of England Primary Academy and Ormiston Herman Academy as well as from Firespinners, the local boys’ choir.

Rev Price added, “In the run up to that Saturday we’re also inviting the community to get involved in two ways:  We’re conducting a poll to find the Mag’s favourite carol, and there will also be a prize star trail which people can follow from Saturday December 15 with a prize for every entry brought to the event on December 22.”

The church will be holding its traditional Carols by Candlelight service next Sunday, December 16 at 4pm.

Voting slips for the favourite carol poll and entry forms for the star trail can be obtained from the church.  Votes can also be cast in the carol poll online at:  https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/7NQYM7V
