Former pop star sings and speaks at Norwich dinner

Former singing star with Herman's Hermits, John Gaughan, performed and spoke at the recent FGB dinner in Norwich on Thursday June 20 at the presidential Suite of the Mercure Hotel.

At the age of 15, John was singing in pubs, and at 18 was one of Herman’s Hermits, performing in Madison Square Gardens and the Holly wood Bowl.

From there he worked his way down, consuming two and a half bottles of vodka a day, and ending up on the streets. A failed suicide attempt left him going to the off-licence in a wheelchair in his pyjamas.

And then there was a knock on his door, and a man said that Jesus had sent him….. He started church-going, but it was some time later that he gave his life to Christ, a lady broke the alcoholic curse over him, and he has not wanted a drink since.

John loves to talk about the person who has changed his life forever.

MercureHotelNorwich600The dinner is one of the regular monthly dinner evenings where speakers share ‘new life stories’. These events, open to all, are arranged by the Norwich Chapter of the Full Gospel Businessmen, (FGB), part of a worldwide fellowship.

FGB is endorsed by the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, who says: “We need more men like them.”
