Norwich church gets creative with Easter story

A Norwich church is embarking on a creative way to involve the local community in sharing in the Easter story.

Members of Norwich Central Baptist Church are constructing a sculpture of Jesus’ tomb out of empty milk bottles. The sculpture will be completed gradually during Lent in the foyer area of the church and will provide a focal point for the church community to talk about the Easter story with people who come into the building.

One of the organisers Tristan Baldry said, “We need over a thousand bottles to make the structure, so we are relying on our church community to get involved and ask their friends, families, colleagues and neighbours to save their bottles. It is an easy way to talk about why we celebrate Easter, the significance of Jesus’ death and also to invite people to come along and see the sculpture take shape.”

The finished sculpture will be around 3 meters long and 2 metres high, complete with stone to roll away on Easter Sunday. At the church’s 10.15am service on April 12.

People are invited to drop off their clean, empty 4 pint bottles complete with lid to the church on Duke Street or at the Cafe at Mousehold Hub.
