Norwich church needs help to update computers

Staff at Oak Grove Community Church in North Norwich are currently home-working, but they need to update some of their computer resources in order to continue to effectively support their local community.

When lockdown started, as advised by the Government, Oak Grove shut their buildings and all staff moved to remote home-working.  Like many other churches they have adapted to working more online and meeting via Zoom and other platforms. They have also managed to adapt some of their community projects to work remotely during the pandemic, including keeping in contact with young people, supporting vulnerable families, their money advice centre and they have established a telephone befriending scheme.

“But we are still struggling with some creaking bits of equipment and poorly functioning laptops, some of which have not been able to cope with the likes of Zoom, so some staff are using their personal laptops some of the time while working at home” explained Sian Pearce, Oak Grove’s Finance and fundraising administrator; “We wondered if there are any people or local organisations who might be able to assist with improving our rather old IT equipment set up?”

“Some organisations are offering staff small allowances to set up home offices, but with some of our normal sources of income as a small charity falling, and three staff already furloughed, we simply don’t have the reserves to be able to help staff work more effectively at home by purchasing better equipment.”

“Perhaps someone might have recently upgraded their IT and have redundant machines, or even laptop for loans maybe?   Even a little extra IT investment at this point would enable us to keep serving local people in our area, and to plan to do more as lockdown eases.”
