The sound of celebration rings out at Christmas

Whether in the church building itself or in the churchyard, in a car park or a community garden, churches across Norfolk are going ahead with Christmas services this year. Find a service in our listing below.

Norwich Cathedral is holding a Christmas Procession on Sunday December 20 at 3.30pm and 7pm, Tuesday 22 December at 7pm, and Thursday 24 December at 3.30pm. There will be a Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve at 11.15pm, followed by a Family Eucharist for Christmas Day at 10.30am and Festal Evensong for Christmas Day at 3.30pm.

The Mitre Group in Norwich has an online booking system for services. It will be celebrating Traditional Carols at St Thomas on December 20. It will have Christmas Experiences all day at both the Sanctuary and St Thomas. There will also be midnight communion at St Thomas, and morning services at all venues on Christmas Day.

At St John’s Cathedral it will be necessary to book places for the Christmas Masses this year, as space will be significantly limited. The Cathedral has almost tripled the usual number of Masses from 6 to 17 to accommodate people with their reduced Covid-19 secure capacity of 250. Three Vigil Masses will be celebrated this year on Christmas Eve. You can book via individual EventBrite web pages for each Mass via this link: www.sjbcathedral.org.uk/book

Stalham Baptist will be holding a candlelit service on December 20 at 4pm. This will also be transmitted to the car park, so a drive-in option is available. The Christmas Day family service is at 10.45am. There is a booking system for all these events via Diana Gordon (secretary@stalhambaptist.org.uk).

St Andrew’s Eaton will be holding carol services on Sunday December 20 at 10 am and 4 pm in church, and at 6.30 pm via Zoom. There may also be a final carol sung outside at the end of the two main carol services. Christmas Eve services are going ahead at 3.30 pm - a Crib Service via Zoom – and at 11.30 pm - Midnight Holy Communion in church. Christmas Day service will be at 10.00 am with Worship plus Holy Communion in church.

Fountain of Life Church in Ashill has a "Book Your Seat" facility on the website www.folchurch.co.uk

Wellspring Church in Dereham will gradually start opening up for in-person worship in January, though numbers will be quite limited. It will continue livestreaming each Sunday on YouTube - www.youtube.com/c/WellspringFamilyChurch

Bowthrope Church has a booking system via the church website. It will be holding an outdoor carol service on December 20 at 5pm in the Bowthorpe Community Garden and a walk-through Christingle on December 24 at 4pm. Christmas Eve will be celebrated at 11pm and Christmas Day at 10.30am.

Broadcasting on FM 107.4 or online at http://harbourradio.co.uk/

Lighthouse Church in Sheringham will be holding a Carols in the Car Park service on Sunday December 20 at 4pm, when Christingles will be given out. Because of space limitations, those wishing to come should book in advance. Please text 07757 778283.

Weybourne church will be celebrating Christmas as it sings carols by candlelight in the churchyard on Christmas Eve at 4.00pm.  Please feel free to bring a flask of something warming and if any children would like to dress up as a character from the nativity that would be great.

St Andrew’s in Norwich city centre will be hosting a lunchtime carol service on Thursday December 17 at 1pm. City workers and their friends are invited to the service which takes place next to Cinema City in St Andrews Street. It will also be online at Friday December 18 at 1pm. To take part in the live service, please get a free ticket in advance from www.standrewsnorwich.org/events.
